#9378 Harrop and Sierra gear product ready to be installed.
9.5" 3rd has already been cleaned and old open carrier removed.

Unboxed and organized. Samsung Note4 to keep me company.

Old Pinion/old races were removed and the new koyo ones tapped in.

.0565" shim pressed on the new 488 Sierra pinion.

The Sierra ring did fall into place with the proper persuasion. No boiling water.

81 ft/lb with blue loctite on the 12 special ring gear bolts.

The carrier bearings(conversion bearings) can be pressed in place.

Fast forward to the painting of the 1st pattern check.....only slightly deeper than my preferred.

Coast looks nice though.

Drive side....reverse painted. Agrees on being slightly deeper than the preferred.

coast ...a little vague on this paint.

Drive on the pinion tooth says slightly too deep.

....................

..................

So now the pinion shim is replaced with one that is 1.5 thou thinner. That will fix the
depth concern. Now the crush sleeve and seal can be installed.

This is a NOK seal....a good seal.

AH2261K

A light coating of gear oil on the rubber seal portion.

A nice, smooth 12 in/lb start torque.

With the pinion pointed up now is a good time to drill the 29/64" hole.

The drill spot scritinized closely......making sure that it was well clear of the bolt holes.

Drive side. Good.

Coast side ....can't get much better than this.

Drive of the pinion tooth. Comet tail is right in the center.

Bracket is installed now.

Tab was adjusted for 2mm play.

........................

70 ft/lb plus a little more on all 4 bearing cap bolts.

Backlash was checked in 20 places(every other tooth). I saw lows of .007" and highs of .009"

..........................

.......................

Elocker test. 12 volts to the 2 wires and 2.65 amps draw.

The important specs are etched on the ring gear.

Done :)
