Kent is local to me and lives just down the road about 3 miles away in the town of Gilbert. Kent's Runner is a 96 model and wanted the guts inspected. This assembly really is a strong unit....plus the thing weighs about 90 pounds!

It's a high pinion....all of my shots make it look like a low pinion but it's not.

..................................................................

When I pried the stub axle out, the clip broke. First time I've seen this happen. Fortunately I have spares.

Checking backlash is awkward using the oil fill hole for access to a tooth.

Let's see what's under the steel cover....

carefully tap the 3 or 4 available ridges on the cover and it pops right off.

The ARB air bearing looks ok. Line routing is clean.

The ARB case...

Fluid is a bit gritty...bearings good....pinion teeth good.

Looks like a good high quality ring.

Some surface tears but otherwise looked good. Pattern is where it needs to be.

I checked pinion pre-load and there actually still was some :)

.................

The last guy used good red LocTite so I had to clear the holes out...

.................

The ring gear bolts were all verified to be tight.

The pinion seal is 'unique'

Kent gave me the heads up that this is not the ideal place to exit the ARB tube thru the cover (gets in the way of too many things on the outside).

The carrier bearing shims require a special tool to press them out. CBPL was acceptable so no adjustment was required.

I don't even think that Randys $300 special puller would reach under this small space. I carefully bolted it back together and gave it to Kent with a clean bill of health.
